With the popularity of the SmackDown vs. RAW franchise and this year’s WWE ’12 videogame, it seems that the WWE could be heading to the past after filing a trademark for usage in video games.
The company registered to trademark “Wrestlefest” over the weekend for usage in video games. The name was used in the early 90’s for an arcade game called WWF Wrestlefest, which featured Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, The Big Boss Man, Sgt. Slaughter, Mr. Perfect, Earthquake, “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase and Demolition (Smash and Crush). The Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) were also included as a non-selectable boss tag team.
It is unknown at this time if the company plan on using legends in the revamped franchise, or whether it could end up like another version of WWE All Stars, which proved to be extremely popular with videogame fans.
