The following are the results of Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA.
The host for tonight’s show, The Miz, welcomes us to the 26th annual WWE SummerSlam. He runs down the two big main events for tonight, when he is interrupted by Fandango’s music. Fandango along with Summer Rae appear at the top of the ramp, and begin to dance for us.
After a video open for SummerSlam, Lillian Garcia introduces JoJo Offerman who sings the National Anthem.
Ring Of Fire Match
Bray Wyatt (w/Luke Harper & Eric Rowan) defeated Kane by pin fall. Harper and Rowan were able to cover a portion of the fire at ringside, and enter the ring to aid Bray to victory. After the match, Rowan and Harper attack Kane with the steel steps, knock him out, and carry him away with them.
SummerSlam Panel Segment
Josh Matthews introduces us to Booker T, Shawn Michaels & Vickie Guererro. They discuss the Ring Of Fire match that just ended, and the in ring debut of Bray Wyatt.
Singles Match
Cody Rhodes defeated Damien Sandow by pin fall.
After the match, the career highlight video of Christian is shown.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Alberto Del Rio defeated Christian by submission with the cross arm breaker. After the match, Renee Young is in the ring to interview Del Rio. He is still the World Champion, and claims to be a role model for all the Latinos out there.
After the interview, we are shown footage from earlier in the day where Maria Menounos and Natalya defeated Brie Bella and Eva Marie at SummerSlam Axxess.
Backstage Segment
The Miz has Maria Menounos in the back area and she discusses the match from earlier in the day. They are interrupted by Fandango’s music, and Summer Rae and Fandango begin to dance right in front of them! The Miz and Maria then respond with a dance of their own.
Divas Match
Natalya (w/Cameron & Naomi) defeated Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella & Eva Marie) by submission with the sharpshooter.
After the match, we’re shown footage from earlier in the day where Ryback is being a bully and beating up guys in the catering area.
Singles Match–No Disqualifications
Brock Lesnar defeated CM Punk by pin fall. A great match by all, even Paul Heyman did his part. Punk leaves the ring in defeat, but to a standing ovation by the Staples Center crowd chanting his name.
Mixed Tag Team Match
Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn defeated Big E. Langston & AJ by pin fall.
After the match, The Miz is backstage and gets interrupted again by Fandango. The Miz lays him out.
SummerSlam Panel Segment
The panel give their predictions for the WWE Championship match. HBK goes on to thank CM Punk and Brock Lesnar for their great match. Booker T also acknowledges the Del Rio/Christian title match from earlier in the night.
WWE Championship Match
Special Guest Referee–Triple H
Daniel Bryan defeated John Cena by pin fall to become the NEW WWE Champion! After the match, John Cena congratulates Daniel Bryan and leaves the ring. Daniel Bryan celebrates in the ring with chants of Yes from the crowd and confetti coming down from the ceiling. Pyro goes off and Triple H is raising Bryan’s arm in victory again.
“I hear voices in my head…” and Randy Orton comes out with the briefcase. He walks to the ring slowly, stops and stares at Bryan. Orton doesn’t try to cash in the contract, instead he turns back up the ramp. Again he stops and looks back into the ring at Bryan, who is focused back on Orton. Then out of no where, Triple H turns Bryan around and gives him a Pedigree! Orton walks back to the ring, hands Triple H the brief case, and the bell rings. Orton turns over a laid out Bryan, and covers him, while Triple H makes the three count.
The winner and NEW WWE Champion is Randy Orton.
