The Showcase of the Immortals, The Grandest Stage of them All, The Show of Shows, there are many names given over the years to each and every WrestleMania pay-per-view, but there’s one thing that sticks true every year, they leave memorable moments. Tonight, WWE presents their 34th WrestleMania pay-per-view, which currently on paper features 13 matches, however we HAVE included the potential of a John Cena vs. The Undertaker match in our predictions, which brings the current card to 14 matches.
Predicting tonight’s show are Wayne Daly, Michael “Taj” Gallagher and Jon Curry.
WRESTLEMANIA 34 KICKOFF SHOW
Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Wayne – Curt Hawkins
There’s a lot of names thrown into the mix of this one, which obviously makes it a hard match to predict as unexpected names, such as Mojo Rawley winning last year, have come out on top, but for me, I’m of the belief that a WrestleMania moment will happen earlier than usual this year and that his streak will FINALLY come to an end, which is why I am picking Curt Hawkins to shock everyone and win this match.
Michael – Samoa Joe
As recent WrestleManias have shown, this match is usually the hardest to predict and this year is no different. I would like to see Baron Corbin get his run back on track and win this annual curtain jerker for a second time but that seems unlikely given his stop-start run as of late on Smackdown Live. The Revival winning would be a nice parallel to Braun Strowman’s tag-team shenanigans but, it seems a little lackluster at best. I can see this being the spotlight for Samoa Joe to return from injury and re-ignite his run as an unrelenting monster on Monday Night Raw.
Jon – Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy has all of the momentum in the world behind him at the moment. Between the OVERWHELMING success of The Ultimate Deletion and his merch success, his character’s success, it’ll be hard to find someone else not named Elias to win this match, but my pick is still Woken Matt Hardy.
WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal Match
Michael – Sasha Banks
Sasha or Bayley seem to be the only two options for this first time spectacle. There has been little meaningful time devoted to any of the other women where a dark-horse contender may seem in with a chance of stealing the glory this WrestleMania and, as such, only the aforementioned two seem like worthy winners. Sasha completing her heel turn seems to be the obvious conclusion to the build up as of late. I would like to see Absolution members Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose to align with her in doing this.
Jon – Sasha Banks
This one could be fun, as the Bayley/Sasha feud has just started again in earnest a few weeks ago, with no clear cut face or heel, and if WWE has Bayley win the battle royal, Sasha celebrating and Bayley attacking during could be an interesting way to determine the face and heel in this feud likely lasting until SummerSlam. My pick is Sasha Banks.
Wayne – Ember Moon
Much like the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, this also has a mix of names thrown into it, which once again makes it a hard to predict match, as I would like any of the ladies to walk out on top. Add in the factor of NXT talents and it throws a curveball into the mix, which is what I am going with. I expect Ember Moon to make a WrestleMania debut among the NXT talents that will appear in this match and walk out victorious, leading to her main roster debut within the next two days.
WWE Cruiserweight Title Tournament Finals: Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali
Jon – Mustafa Ali
No real problem with these two either way, and no real choice preference, so I pick Mustafa Ali to win the vacant Cruiserweight Title.
Wayne – Mustafa Ali
For those who have not been watching 205 Live as of late, all I can say is shame on you, as the show has vastly improved since the inception of this Cruiserweight Title Tournament. While it looks on paper that Cedric Alexander is destined to finally get his hands on the purple belt, in what will no doubt be a show-stealing match, I’m of the opposite opinion and think that Cedric continuing to chase the belt would suit the brand better, as Mustafa Ali comes out on top in this one.
Michael – Cedric Alexander
205 Live seems to be going through an exciting transition as of late following the unceremonious departure of Enzo Amore and because of this, it seems a little weird that the two finalists in this tournament are Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali; two mainstays of the division since its inception. That being said, Alexander seems to have been chasing the purple belt for the majority of the last year and this match seems destined to be his long-awaited crowning moment in the Cruiserweight division. Similarly, Ali seems to have come out of his shell of sorts since being thrust into the 205 Live spotlight and could recover easily from a loss in his first main title match with his forever improving promos and must-watch matches on Tuesday nights.
WRESTLEMANIA 34 MAIN CARD
WWE RAW Tag Team Titles Match: The Bar (c) vs. Braun Strowman & Mystery Partner
Wayne – Braun Strowman & Mystery Partner
Who will Braun’s partner be is anyone’s guess and I’m not going to spend time guessing it here, other than suggesting that whoever he picks, they will walk out on top as the new WWE RAW Tag Team Champions.
Jon – Braun Strowman & Mystery Partner
That’s my pick for Strowman’s tag team partner: Rey Mysterio! I think Strowman wins here and it’s not even close. Biggest man and little man cliche here for the victory.
Michael – Braun Strowman & Mystery Partner
Who will Strowman team up with to defeat The Bar seems to be the only logical thinking to the set-up we have witnessed. With many a name from Rey Mysterio and Samoa Joe to Elias and Big Show being touted as Braun’s partner, the must see reveal has a lot of fans eagerly anticipating this match on Sunday (Hoping for Dean Ambrose but expecting Hulk Hogan). Although they seem fated to temporarily lose their Raw Tag Team Championships, The Bar are two of the best and most consistent workers and the company. It seems impossible for the European duo to have a match anywhere near “bad”. This match likely won’t allow them to overly showcase their talents, unfortunately but, Sheamus and Cesaro are probably the best two capable of helping Braun Strowman look elite as he wins the tag team titles.
Triple Threat Match For The WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles: The Uso’s (c) vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers
Wayne – The Bludgeon Brothers
This has probably been the best inception of the Luke Harper & Erick Rowan tag team since their time on the main roster, as they come off as a brute-looking menacing duo. Their time to stand atop of SmackDown’s Tag Team Division begins tonight and I for one would like to see NXT tag team, The Authors of Pain, be brought up as their future challengers.
Jon – The Bludgeon Brothers
I think these guys deserve their moment, Harper and Rowan have been a great tag team for what 6 years on and off? They deserve their WrestleMania moment, plus with as dominant as they’ve been the last few months, what would be the point if New Day wins their 5th titles, or the Uso’s retain here?
Michael – The New Day
A potential show stealer from the blue brand, this match promises controlled and creative chaos from all participants. The re-re-reemergence of Harper and Rowan as a dominant tag team has been the shot in the arm that the SmackDown Live tag team division has needed. It has also added an interesting and refreshing addition to the Usos vs New Day feud that, although still interesting and unmissable, has been on and off for what seems like forever. If this were a traditional tag team match, I could not see any team but Harper and Rowan leaving with their mallets and their new straps. The joys of a triple threat however is allowing participants to not lose and not win simultaneously, thus “protecting” talent. Unless new talent is introduced to the tag team division on Tuesday nights following WrestleMania, I can’t see the Bludgeon Brothers emerging as new champions against the two most popular tag teams in recent memory. I can see the New Day stealing it here.
Fatal Four Way Match For The WWE United States Title: Randy Orton (c) vs. Bobby Roode vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev
Wayne – Randy Orton
This match almost in a sense may come across as a throw-away type of match, as there hasn’t been much in the way of that all three men are chasing Orton, who has been randomly popping up during their matches, delivering an RKO and leaving. While the numbers game is against Orton tonight, I still expect him to walk out on top and hold the title for a little bit longer.
Jon – Rusev
Talk about a sort of flat feud here. Orton became US Champion and has like ZERO momentum behind him, Roode kind of feels like he’s in a holding pattern, Jinder they’re just trying to salvage, and Rusev is the victim of circumstance in the best way possible. What I mean by this is too many triple threats, and his merch is selling like hotcakes. For that reason alone, I could see, and am picking WWE to go with the audible and make Rusev the New US Champion.
Michael – Rusev
This is the match that probably deserves to be on the kick-off and purely exists as a mechanism to get the four men onto the grandest stage of them all. The build to this singles/turned triple threat/turned fatal four way has been lame at best. None of that is particularly the fault of any of the talent involved but “lame” seems to be the best word to describe most things SmackDown related. Hopefully WWE has learned from WrestleMania 30 days and listens to the fans on this one. Everything Rusev does seems to get over well with the fans and other wrestlers alike and this deserves reward from the higher-ups in order to make it a Happy Rusev Day.
Triple Threat Match For The WWE Intercontinental Title: The Miz (c) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor
Wayne – The Miz
If you had asked me a couple of days ago who I had expected to win this match, I would’ve said Seth Rollins, however with The Miz now a father and not having the added pressure of when his wife Maryse was due to give birth, it’s almost like a weight off his shoulders. This is another one of those matches I expect to fully steal the show and I am predicting that just like Orton above, The Miz holds on to the title just that bit longer, maybe as long as he becomes the number one in the longest-reigning charts.
Jon – Finn Bálor
I am beyond excited for this match. Honestly for me, there’s no right or wrong answer of these three. All three are deserving of being the Intercontinental Champion, and all three have a rightful claim. Miz I definitely see losing, and I feel like there’s unfinished business with Samoa Joe and Seth Rollins so that could come into play here tonight. So my pick is Finn Bálor.
Michael – Finn Bálor
Another match of the night candidate that I can’t wait to see. With three of the best performers on the entire roster in one match, this match seems impossible to leave fans disappointed. This is a rare set-up where, no matter which performer emerges as the victor, the fans will be happy. The Miz seems to go from strength to strength, Seth Rollins has emerged as the WWE’s Mr Dependable and Finn Balor is back to his NXT best. The inner lifelong wrestling fan in me sees Finn Balor emerging the champion following his Monday Night Raw loss to Seth Rollins to allow for fresher match-ups in the Raw midcard. This also allows Seth Rollins to step-up as an anti-thesis to Roman Reigns as a heel or face and also allows The Miz to float back over to Tuesday Nights for a long-awaited match with Daniel Bryan.
WWE RAW Women’s Title Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax
Wayne – Alexa Bliss
Alexa Bliss is probably one of the most prized assets that the WWE has right now, whether they realize it or not and she continues to perform on a consistent basis week in and week out and is the perfect bratty heel that can work on either brand, as evidenced by her coming in to last year’s WrestleMania pay-per-view as the SmackDown Women’s Champion. While Nia Jax obviously has the title in her future, I don’t think that tonight will be the night that it happens
Jon – Alexa Bliss
This is an easy pick for me, kind of a weak story, and by weak I mean lazy. I also don’t think Nia Jax is ready to be Women’s Champion, however, if Alexa wins, who is realistically left to challenge her? Unless she wins and Charlotte or Becky get drafted to RAW. Either way that’s irrelevant, my pick is Alexa Bliss.
Michael – Alexa Bliss
This is a match I am surprisingly looking forward to. Alexa Bliss has been the perfect heel to aid Nia in getting over as a face and has been continually the best performing female in the company for over a year now. I think Bliss will retain due to shenanigans of some form, mostly because I don’t see 2 new women’s champions being crowned on one night. Nia continues to improve in-ring and on the microphone but I don’t see this as her moment. In my opinion, she has a little ways to go, particularly as a babyface before she deserves championship gold.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Title Match: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Asuka
Wayne – Asuka
Yet again, another match I fully expect could steal the show tonight. Since Asuka came to NXT and Charlotte Flair went to the main roster, this has been a match I have long waited to see. The Empress of Tomorrow battles The Queen and simply put, the fans are the winners of this one. While I expect Carmella to cash-in her Money in the Bank briefcase here tonight, ala Seth Rollins at WrestleMania, I don’t see the same scenario playing out and I expect Asuka to dominate SmackDown’s Women’s Division for quite some time.
Jon – Asuka
Sadly my pick for this match is Asuka. I think it’s more than about time for Asuka’s streak to end, and the predictability involved with her matches to end. Having said that, I feel like she stays undefeated until she inevitably faces Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35. Winner and NEW SmackDown Women’s Champion: Asuka.
Michael – Asuka
The match we thought we wouldn’t get this side of a Superstar Shake-up, a match that has people genuinely excited for Women’s match like never before. Two of the bona fide best, male or female, this match also has potential to be a show-stealer. This has not been a personal feud or what that has been building up for months. It’s purely two competitors wanting to prove they are better than the other and that is in no way a bad thing. Sometimes less is more and WWE is showcasing that with this match. The “threat” of a Carmella cash-in looms over this match á la Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31 and adds another layer of intrigue to an already must see encounter. I can’t see Asuka’s streak ending here, even via cash-in shenanigans – I think she will defend her championship successfully despite Carmella’s attempt at opportunism.
Tag Team Match: Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Wayne – Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon
Simply put, you don’t bring Daniel Bryan back to the ring, in the same town where he won the titles at WrestleMania 30 and then have him lose. I fully expect Daniel and Shane to walk out as the winners here tonight, with Owens and Sami returning to the WWE RAW roster.
Jon – Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
This is a hard one for me. Does WWE waste Daniel Bryan’s return to the ring for a storyline? Or does WWE just have the evil McMahon re-sign these two with a loss? Shane McMahon kind of feels like the odd man out here or the irrelevant one, UNLESS he turns heel on Daniel Bryan, which would give for storyline reasons to make a new GM. My pick is KO and Sami with a Shane heel turn.
Michael – Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn
Even though it looked nigh on impossible, the road to Daniel Bryan’s return began at Hell in A Cell last year. Tease after tease, it seemed too good to be true but, finally a man I witnessed in person win at WrestleMania 30 returns on the biggest stage possible. It seems almost ridiculous to question that Daniel Bryan emerges victorious in his return but the “Lose and remain fired” stipulation has left WWE in a pickle. The emphasis on Shane’s health problems real or scripted seems to be the indicator that the despicable duo of Zayn and Owens will be too much for a returning Bryan and forever-losing Shane O’Mac.
Mixed Tag Team Match: Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H
Wayne – Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle
Once again, just like mentioned above, I can’t see WWE bringing in Ronda Rousey to the company, only to have her lose in her WWE debut. I fully expect however that whatever happens in this match will result in 1.) highlights being on every worldwide news source and 2.) the end of Kurt Angle as WWE RAW General Manager.
Jon – Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle
This one is tricky for me too because on one hand, I can’t see Ronda Rousey’s first match in WWE being a loss. However this is also the same guy who beat Sting in his first and only WrestleMania match, so it’s up in the air, but I still think Rousey and Angle win this.
Michael – Ronda Rousey & Kurt Angle
This match guarantees to be more sizzle than steak as Ronda Rousey makes her WWE debut. There is no way Ronda loses in her debut with all the attention she will garner for herself and the company but I expect Kurt Angle and Triple H to occupy most of the in-ring time to protect Ronda’s still developing skills. The final moments when she eventually gets her hands on Stephanie will be world wide news on Monday morning.
John Cena vs. The Undertaker
Wayne – The Undertaker
Do Something, Do Something, that’s what John Cena has been asking The Undertaker to do for the past 4 weeks or more in terms of a potential match between the two tonight. Both men come into the match with nothing to lose, as a loss does not hurt either man, despite what fans might have you think if Cena goes over here tonight. I expect that The Undertaker, in whatever form he appears in, Deadman, Biker or even a morph of both goes over here tonight and that this will not be the last we have seen of him just yet.
Jon – John Cena
This one is a little tricky, mainly because we have no idea if we’ll actually get a match between these two, let alone a confrontation at all. If we get a match, Undertaker loses, why? A legend retires a legend. Rock for Austin, Cena for Rock, Flair for HBK, Taker for HBK, etc.
Michael – The Undertaker
This match has revolved around the most exciting Will They? Won’t They? since Ross and Rachel finally got together in the Friends finalé and it has been a refreshing change of pace for both John Cena and The Undertaker. Normally, both men would be booked in blockbuster matches for the Grandaddy Of ‘Em All but WWE has shifted focus from two of their longest mainstays and has built a stacked (quality and quantity wise) WrestleMania card without the concrete inclusion of their two biggest stars since Hulk Hogan not named Steve Austin or The Rock. It seems almost a foregone conclusion that The Phenom will rise one more, and perhaps final, time to phase Big Match John. Although this match seems 4 or 5 years too late in the eyes of many, I expect both men to keep the live audience enthralled similar to how The Rock and Hogan did at WrestleMania 18. I hope this is a more fitting last ride for The Undertaker and cements John Cena’s transition to part-time attraction.
WWE Title Match: AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Wayne – Shinsuke Nakamura
The final match of the matches I expect to absolutely steal the show. Having seen them battle for the IWGP Intercontinental Title several years ago at the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 pay-per-view, I expect the same quality of match from the two tonight and this is honestly the match on the card I am looking forward to the most. I am expecting that Nakamura gets his WrestleMania moment here tonight, with Styles switching brands in the coming days or weeks.
Jon – Shinsuke Nakamura
I feel like AJ Styles has a habit of putting over Nakamura, and that’s going to happen once again at WrestleMania. Plus with rumors that AJ Styles is going to the RAW brand after WM, so unless they’re swapping belts, AJ loses here to Nakamura.
Michael – AJ Styles
The match that many expect to be the best match on the card by a clear mile, it seems destined to be a five star classic based on the previous encounters and match hype alone. Sometimes, that sets expectations too high, but AJ Styles is a man that thrives on surpassing expectations. Phenomenal isn’t just a slogan or catchphrase for AJ, it’s his in-ring way of life and nobody can argue that. Nakamura is no rookie either and has definitely hit his stride on the main roster following his not-so-perfect introduction to SmackDown Live. I think the re-emergence of heel AJ Styles may happen here to defy the man from Japan who has been promising that the bout ends with a knee-to-face Kinsasha. I hope this match is the introduction to a series of mat-classics between the two on WWE TV.
WWE Universal Title Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns
Wayne – Brock Lesnar
Wait, you expected me to say Roman Reigns? While that’s not a knock on Reigns, it seems the obvious choice, in terms of having a full-time Champion around on WWE RAW. It has been known that Brock Lesnar wants a UFC return, but I’m expecting Brock Lesnar to cause a shock upset and retain the title, come in to WWE RAW and gloat, before he is met by a new and “dominating” challenger, hmm, I wonder who I could be teasing at.
Jon – Roman Reigns
Need I really say more? WrestleMania 34 is the 4th straight WrestleMania with a part-time champion, and it’s time WWE ends this trend. Brock Lesnar’s act is getting stale and couple that with the fact he’s likely leaving WWE for UFC soon, Roman gets my pick here.
Michael – Roman Reigns
It seems almost a foregone conclusion of when Brock Lesnar returns to the UFC and not an if he does and as such, the result of this match seems somewhat predictable. Here though, predictable isn’t a bad thing. Roman Reigns, despite the boos and baseless complaints from a vocal minority, is one of the best all-round performers in the world, not just WWE. He is The Guy in more ways than one. The WrestleMania 31 encounter between these two was better than anyone could have predicted at the time and now, it can only be even better with Roman’s continuous improvements since then. Roman is the ideal protagonist for Lesnar in that they are polar opposites as individual performers and characters and it makes sense for Reigns to be the one to slay the beast that is Brock Lesnar and de-throne him atop the mountain that is the main event scene of Monday Night Raw.
Will any of us get all the predictions right, who will walk out on top with the bragging rights. Find out tonight as WrestleMania airs at a special start time of 7pm Eastern on the WWE Network, with the Kickoff Show beginning at 5pm Eastern.
