In an update on plans for the WWE Women’s Tournament series, as noted previously, it is expected that the show will begin taping on Thursday, July 13th and Friday, July 14th, with the live final tentatively scheduled to air on Tuesday, August 29th.
As of now, WWE are said to be going back and forth in regards to the commentary team for the show, with an idea thrown about that Jim Ross could be working the series as a commentator, similar to how he will be calling the action for the WWE United Kingdom Championship series, while other names being discussed for a role on commentary include Renee Young, Charly Caruso, Bayley, Lita and Charlotte Flair.
WWE are said to be heavy on locking in talent currently, as they don’t want those talents to be booked for the dates that the tapings occur, however any talent signed is still permitted to take independent wrestling bookings before or after the tapings as long as it is not on the dates that WWE require them for.
There has been a lot of speculation in recent days that the tournament will feature Kairi Hojo and Io Shirai from Japan, both of whom are leaving the STARDOM promotion for the WWE, as well as Nixon Newell, Evie, Candice LeRae, Santana Garrett, Deonna Purrazzo and other names and potential surprise inclusions, just like the inclusions of The Brian Kendrick and Yoshihiro Tajiri in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, while the company in recent days are reported to be interested in locking in former TNA Knockouts Marti Belle and Jade/Mia Yim for the tournament.
