In an update on CM Punk escorting Chael Sonnen to cageside for his upcoming fight at UFC On FOX 2 on January 28th for his fight against Mark Munoz, a report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider notes that the deal wasn’t made between the WWE and UFC, but instead between Sonnen and Punk themselves.

The deal is not some sort of promotional agreement between the companies as part of a working agreement and is also not the plan to set up a potential return to the WWE for Brock Lesnar, as the retirement of Brock Lesnar has nothing to do with Punk’s appearance.

Meanwhile, Punk recently requested that he could get the night off prior to the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, with the request only being granted over the weekend.
