Io Shirai, who recently dropped the Wonder Of STARDOM Title, is back on the WWE radar, which has led many to believe that she could be receiving another tryout from the company ahead of the WWE Mae Young Classic II Tournament.
Back in October 2016, it was reported that Shirai and Kairi Sane had been contacted by the company and offered contracts to leave STARDOM and join the company, with both expected to take part in the first-ever WWE Mae Young Classic Tournament, however in June 2017, it was revealed that a WWE medical examination discovered a neck injury that would delay Shirai’s debut.
Meanwhile, in August, just as doctors had cleared Shirai to return to the ring, WWE rescinded the offer, noting that the company had a general rule of not wanting to bring in new talent that either had concussion issues or neck issues, with later reports noting that the medical examination found an issue with Shirai’s heart, despite Japanese doctors clearing Shirai on both her heart and neck issues.
WWE have a tour of Japan coming up on June 29th and June 30th and have tentatively booked Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida on Tuesday, August 7th and Wednesday, August 8th, which is expected to be for the WWE Mae Young Classic II Tournament, so it will be interesting to see if Shirai will finally get a nod to be part of the tournament.
