All Elite Wrestling President Tony Khan took part in a post-AEW All Out media scrum and discussed the decision to allow Matt Hardy to continue to wrestle following a nasty scare at the AEW All Out pay-per-view.

Khan said that the health and safety of the wrestlers are the most important thing in All Elite Wrestling and that while it looks like Matt is going to be okay, he personally stopped Hardy’s match and rang the bell to pause the match. Khan noted that Hardy went to the hospital to confirm that he was okay, but that he passed a concussion protocol, which is why he was cleared to continue. Khan said that it was a scary moment and not something that anyone enjoyed.

Khan then responded to whether the company medically overruled the doctor noting that Dr. Sampson has pulled people from their events in the past, whether that is for an injury or a blood test and said that he never would have overruled the doctor’s decision, while Matt would not have been allowed to do that. Khan said that Matt wanted to continue, but they did not continue until he passed a concussion protocol.

Khan then responded to whether there was any hesitation regarding Hardy climbing the scaffolding so soon after the scare. Khan said that he was extremely concerned, because he knew that’s what the plans were to happen and that is why he paused the match, because he wanted to make sure that Matt Hardy would be okay to do such a thing, noting that he wanted to be cautious by having the doctor to check. Khan said that it was a nervous moment, given what Hardy and Guevara had planned and wanted to make sure that everything was okay to continue.
