TNA Wrestling announced at the most recent set of TNA IMPACT Wrestling tapings that the King of the Mountain and the TNA World Heavyweight Championships will be merged together to create a brand new Championship with a brand new lineage, the TNA Grand Championship.

For those wondering, matches for the TNA Grand Championship will have a unique set of rules, different from the rules of a traditional wrestling match as there will be judges sitting at ringside, with an 8-man tournament set to crown the first-ever Champion.

The TNA X-Division Championship will remain its own entity for the company, while TNA have retired the King of the Mountain Championships as part of the move, a title that returned when Jeff Jarrett made an appearance on IMPACT Wrestling as part of the Global Force Wrestling “invasion” storyline.
