In 2008 the brand split was still in effect in WWE so KAYFABE COMMENTARIES followed suit in their critically acclaimed TIMELINE HISTORY OF THE WWE series and split the year in half. Joining SEAN OLIVER for this edition is former tag team champion BRIAN MYERS AKA CURT HAWKINS. Hawkins and his Long Island co-hort Zack Ryder were working in WWE as the Major Brothers for a while when the fun journey began on Smackdown.
Here are some of the major areas covered by Myers & Oliver:
How the duo got paired with Edge to become the “Edge-Heads”, the changes they made to their characters going from Deep South to the main roster, Brock Lesnar’s debut in UFC, the dropping of Ohio Valley Wrestling from the developmental program, how the wellness program works, the Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather feud, and being part of WrestleMania 24 Edge/Taker match.
It also discussed the debut of WWE Kids Magazine, working international events in South America & Europe, William Regal winning King of the Ring, Matt Hardy winning the US title from MVP, the roster draft, locker room etiquette with and without Taker inside it, CM Punk cashing in on World champion Edge, working with Vickie Guerrero, actor Freddie Prinze Jr. joining the creative team, winning the Smackdown Tag Team belts at the Nassau Coliseum, the birth of WWE Studios, the lawsuit brought against WWE by Raven, Kanyon & Mike Sanders, Edge/Taker at Summerslam with fire & WWE going PG.
Also covered are the roster debuts of Eve Torres, Nattie Neidhart, Mick Foley (commentary table) , the Bella Twins, the return of Matt Hardy (injury) and the exits of David Taylor (trainer), Jimmy Yang (30 days suspension), Big Daddy V (fired), Shannon Moore (fired), Domino (fired) referee Nick Patrick (fired), Kenny Dykstra (fired), SD Jones (RIP), Super Crazy (quits), Killer Kowalski (RIP), Jack Reynolds (RIP), Lia Maivia (RIP) & the Cyber Sunday PPV.
Myers is a great choice as the guest being he was in the main event angles thanks to Edge. He was also a travel partner at times to Punk, Kingston & others. There is an interesting story about auditioning for the Marine 2 plus in-depth feelings on winning the tag belts on Long Island, working with Prinze Jr. in acting workshops, his interactions with Laurinaitis/McMahon & WWE’s transition into what is known as the PG Era.
