Former WCW World Champion Sting was a recent guest on Ric Flair’s “Wooooo! Nation” podcast and discussed his current health status, working the match against Seth Rollins and more.
On if everything is fine with his health, Sting had the following to say, “Yes and no, obviously that night I had some problems, both buckle bombs were not Seth’s fault, I have no idea what I did, my neck whiplashed on both of them. On the second one, he picked me up and I’m having a casual conversation in my own mind as I’m hoisted up on his shoulders and I’m thinking, “okay Steve, tuck your chin and do what you know what to do”. I wasn’t worried at all, even though on the first one, I had a shock going down the left and right thigh down to the finger tips, you can see me in the ring trying to get the feeling back in my hand. The second time, for whatever reason, I clicked out or checked out, I don’t know what happened and I did the same thing and this time it affected my leg, there was no strength and the power in my legs was kind of going away, I felt like I didn’t have control, I had temporary paralysis and for a few minutes I thought, I don’t think I can continue.”
Sting went on to state that there was a brief moment where he wondered if he could actually continue on with the match, but that the stakes were so high and his body came around enough that he was able to do another minute or two and finish the match and that Dr. Joseph Maroon told him that he would need to get surgery. Ric Flair asked him if he needed to get neck fusion surgery, however Sting said that he is not sure, but he hopes not and that there are two spots in his neck that are troublesome and he has cervical spinal stenosis, basically, two areas in his neck that hold the spinal cord are choked off in two different locations, meaning that he was lucky something catastrophic didn’t happen during his match with Rollins. Sting said that the injury is not affecting his day-to-day life as he is able to go out and make appearances and feels normal except for when he is sitting down for a long time or on the occasions that he is trying to sleep and reiterated that what happened during the match was his own fault and that Seth Rollins did not do anything to injure him.
