Rey Mysterio, who had been in discussions with the WWE in recent weeks, about a potential return to the company, has signed a deal with Nashville-based wrestling promotion Aro Lucha, with a report from The Tennessean noting that Mysterio is joining the promotion as both a performer and a co-owner, however as of writing, it is unknown as to whether Mysterio co-owning the promotion is legitimate or done for storyline purposes.
Mysterio, who the article notes has been rumored to sign with WWE, had the following to say on signing the deal, “I think what we are doing with Aro Lucha being fan-owned is revolutionary. We are giving the fans something they have never had before, a voice and a chance to get in on the action.”
For those wondering, part of Aro Lucha’s strategy, is to offer the fans a chance to buy into the promotion, in somewhat of a crowdfunding effort, to allow fans to invest in the company, using rules relaxed by Barack Obama during his Presidency that would allow the promotion to potentially raise $1 million via sales of stock to non-credited investors.
Speaking on that news, Aro Lucha owner Jason Brown had the following to say, “This gives fans a chance to get in on the action, but more so than that, it really gives them a voice. Especially, at a company like ours, fans are so passionate, they critique every storyline, every character and now, we’re able to actually listen to them.”
