Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion and WCW Heavyweight Champion Sting is reported to have sent feelers to the WWE about a potential deal with the company, according to a report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The report notes that WWE officials are more confident than ever that Sting will sign with the company when his deal with TNA Wrestling expires.
The expectation is that if Sting signed with the company, he would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, while fans would be treated to a dream match between himself and The Undertaker, something Sting himself has not been shy talking about, stating in a recent interview, “It’s no secret. I’ve always wanted to wrestle Undertaker; I’ve said that for years. And who would not want to work WrestleMania. It would be awesome to have had at least one match with him. Again, never say never. I’m happy right where I am at the moment and we’ll just see what unfolds here.”
The timing is certainly confusing as Sting is currently in the process of forming a new Main Event Mafia on TNA television and is being used to build towards the TNA Bound For Glory, however there was talk internally that Sting was said to have been unhappy at not being able to challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship following his loss to Bully Ray at the TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view.
WWE have had interest in the past few years including in 2011 and 2012 when Sting himself noted that he was as close as ever to signing a deal, so it will be interesting to see how TNA Wrestling deal with “The Stinger” over the coming months.
