The following is a summary of the Kick-Off Show for WWE’s Night of Champions, which took place September 15th, 2013, in Detroit, Michigan.
–Josh Matthews opens the show and introduces his panel consisting of Alex Riley, Booker T and Santino Marella. They each discuss the matches they are looking forward to tonight including the WWE Championship match, and the Handicap Elimination Match.
–The panel now moves on to the Tag Team Turmoil Match, and Alex Riley predicts that whoever wins this match, will go on to become the Tag Team Champions and defeat The Shield later on tonight.
–Josh Matthews introduces Renee Young who is in the social media lounge, and she runs down a couple of the poll questions on the WWE website and app.
–Paul Heyman is shown in the back when Brad Maddox walks by and asks if Heyman is ok? Heyman complains to him about having to compete tonight against CM Punk, but Heyman comes up with a solution. He says that he will punch the referee in the mouth in order to ger disqualified. Punk would not be able to attack him after the bell, or else it would be considered an assault and he would press charges. RAW GM Maddox tells Heyman that the match is now a No Disqualification Match.
–Matthews now sends it down to ringside to Michael Cole, JBL & Jerry Lawler, as the Tag Team Turmoil Match is set to start.
