MEXPW Changes Name to MEXPRO to Avoid Lawsuit
Today we announce that we have officially changed the name of our company from MEXPW to MEXPRO. As many of you know, we received numerous emails from an attorney representing XEG/XTV/Rick Mahr & Associates (parent company of the long-deceased XPW) notifying us that unless we change our name, they would file suit against us for trademark violation. We had until March 30th, 2012 to comply.
“If the new XPW was ever serious about trying to relaunch it’s dead brand, then they would have already produced something on their own. They obviously don’t have any passion for pro wrestling.” says MEXPRO owner, Mike Hartsfield. “They purchased the company from Rob Black back in 2003 and they did nothing with it for years. Kevin Kleinrock, Kris Kloss and myself spearheaded the “Cold Day in Hell” and XPW 10 Year Anniversary shows; we did it for the fans, not the money. Those two shows were the only events XPW has had since they purchased the name.”
“Seeing that our new company is off and running with people in place and diehard dedicated fans, the natural thing to do is what’s best for business. One would expect everyone to work together and take advantage of a very special opportunity. Instead we were strong-armed into changing our name, while those with more money than us, more “power” than us, come in out of nowhere and try to take something very special away from us. Our legal council and trademark specialists agreeded with us, saying “their claim is frivilous and they don’t have a case; they can’t trademark “Pro Wrestling” (PW).”
“MEXPRO is a very simple company with a true D.I.Y. attitude”, Hartsfield continued. “I’m not here to teach these guys what it’s all about. I’m also not interested in changing anyone’s diapers. In any event, we are pushing on and pushing forward, considering we don’t have the monetary resources at this time to disprove their case and we aren’t interested in their bully mentality.
So we move on, we move forward!” MEXPRO presents “Cease and Resist” set for April 14th at the Arena in Los Angeles, CA
