Women Superstars Uncensored issued the following:
Update on the Sale of WSU & What’s Been Going On
These last few weeks for WSU has been a very hectic time. In this social media world, WSU has been releasing updates with what has been going on without full detail. While some issues are a personal matter, for our paying fans and supporters, we feel that you are owed an explanation. I do not want to bore you with full details, but want to give you a sense of what has been going on, as we head to the Uncensored Rumble V iPPV event. 18 months ago, I had to urinate all the time. At first I didn’t think anything of it, as I thought I was just pissing out the previous night’s good time. However, it became more frequent and disrupted my day, as no one wants to hit the head 20 times a day. I went to a doctor, thinking maybe diabetes, after diagnosing my symptoms on WebMD. The test came back negative. However I was told I should have my prostate checked. After not really wanting to do that, I eventually was talked into it. The end result, I had a tiny mass (not cancerous, at least yet) on my prostate.
That was 18 months ago. Since I figured it was non-cancerous and since I had alot going in my life with multiple things, I ignored it and just dealt with going to the bathroom like a maniac. It actually became an on-going joke with many of close friends, because I couldn’t go anywhere without having to go so much. Even writing this, it looks funny and sounds funny (I always had a strange sense of humor) because here I am complaining about pissing all the time. My life has come down to pissing alot. There is some humor there. Anyway, one of the reasons, of many, concerning giving up the DOI, was I hated traveling because sitting in a car for any length of time was aggravating for whoever I was with because we’d have to stop every 30 minutes so I could take a leak. Even when the ACE Arena was shut down due the ACE landlord screwing up, when it was time to find a new building, I decided on the NYWC Sportatorium, because while it was kind of hard to find (but an amazing venue that is so easy and fun to run), it was only 20 minutes from where I live. Venturing out further into NJ wasn’t something I wanted to do, as it would be harder to promote the area and all the traveling was something I didn’t want to do.
While not going further into NJ, or exploring Philadelphia as we could have, probably did cost us at the live gate, WSU has always been a company that profits based off footage (DVDs, IPPVs, etc). My rationale was that if we lost 25-50 fans per show going deep into Long Island, we’d make it back on DVDs and on the footage. My rationale was right, as the advent of iPPV made it easier for those fans to continue to follow us. So while the shows looked lighter live-gate wise, our footage numbers went up. However, no promoter ever wants to give their wrestlers a light crowd, but then again, womens wrestling in America, has never been a big gate business. If it was, every other womens company would try to run the schedule we run. I take pride that we run way more than anyone else, produce more homegrown stars than anyone else and don’t just throw out matches out there for the sake of doing them.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, the urination frequency got worse and I constantly felt tired all the time. I went to the doctor and found out that the mass had grown. Not huge, but significant enough that it was time to act now. I have been in the wrestling business for 10 years now. I have seen many idiots come and go. Many liars. Just bad businessmen. One of the reasons WSU has lasted for 5+ years was because I saw all these people operate and knew what not to do. I have to take care of this issue, there will be a surgery to remove it and there will be recovery time. While this was going on, I was in the middle of buying a bar as well, in addition to my “real-job”. Simply put, I have too much going on at once and there are so many hours in a day. I wish I could clone myself, but I saw “Multiplicity” and that doesn’t really work out well either.
I decided several weeks ago to sell WSU, but didn’t want to make it public until we had something. The reason to sell WSU was because out of everything I have going in life, and as much as some may not want to read it, WSU is low on my current priorities list. I mentioned other companies and their horrible 2 shows a year schedule. I am not saying they are bad, but I could never be someone who runs 2 shows a year and call myself a promoter. The circus comes to town 2 times a year, to be a wrestling promoter, you need to be somewhat regular. That is my opinion of course, and you’re entitled to disagree with that. I have always put alot into WSU. Whether you agreed with the booking, the roster, the shows , etc or not, we always hoped you’d leave saying “they put more effort in than anyone else.” We have ran 6 iPPVs now, and there has never been a problem, where a company like ROH, backed by a multi-million dollar company can’t even get it right.
I am not here to explain my booking philosophies or what-not, but I always loved creating new stars and seeing new people get a chance. 18 months ago, when I first was diagnosed, I was thinking of selling then and had a handshake deal in place. However, I promised Jessicka Havok that she would be the biggest star on the womens scene and would win the WSU World Title at the 5YA show. I saw someone who really f***ing wanted it. I did not want to let her down personally, nor did I want to deny fans to see someone who would be a huge star. I then looked down the roster. The Belle Saints I thought had a lot of potential, but just needed time and more ring work to gain the experience they need. I saw Brittney Savage as a main eventer, but again, needed more time and big time opponents. Lexus was another one, and the list goes on and on. So I decided not to sell then. I wanted to see it all through. Perhaps at the expense of my health, but it was not cancer, just a mass, and I figured I was young and “future me” would have to deal with it. Well the future is here, and I have to deal with it.
With WSU, I put a lot of time and energy into it, and watched this place grow. Nothing is done overnight, but I do think the majority of people realize the effort and growth of this company. I can not give a half a** effort. I can not put on a show that is not at the level I want to be. Stories take time and energy, two things I am lacking right now. Once I realized I would no longer have the time or energy, it was time to sell the company to someone who would. Maybe it is ego, but the bottom line is I could not run these shows at a schedule I’m not used to and at a level I am not used to. I would rather burn out than fade away like that. I also did not want to f*** anyone over, and that’s why I looked for a buyer. In the past few weeks, we got multiple offers and one real deal on the table. I did not want to sell to some mark who would be clueless. I did not want to sell to a pervert who just wanted to be around girls. I did not want to sell to a company who was just going to buy it for our footage library. I wanted to sell to someone who would keep it alive and work hard on it. The roster deserves that, and even more so, the fans deserve that. People have invested in us for 5+ years and to just sell it to someone who had no clue would be a disservice to all.
The real deal we had fell through when the buyer couldn’t produce the money. However, someone real, as well as an A-list indy company (isn’t that an oxymoron, A-list indy?) have made serious offers, but they feel the wishy-washyness of these last few weeks have hurt the company value. They want to see how 6/16 does. All we have to do is have 750 people total watching this show, which is a realistic number to hit with iPPV sales. If we can show that number, the deal will be made and WSU will continue under new management, and by people who will run it the right way. After all, they want proof to see this company is still viable, so they are legit, and not just a wide-eyed dreamer. So we got 3 weeks now to promote the hell out of this show. Buy the iPPV. Come down. Do what you can if you want to see WSU continue. For me personally, June 16th will be my last day as the promoter of WSU, whether the company gets sold or not. I am scheduled early July for my procedure. Aside from that, I am hoping to close on my sale of a bar. I also have different feelings for the wrestling business.
Many websites over the years have promoted us hard, and I feel bad that I can’t do every interview. I have decided after June 16th, I will do one last interview for Snapmare.com’s Dan MacMillian and John Harder for a combined special edition of the Hardway Podcast. Both Dan & John work really hard and I’d like to thank them for their help with WSU. I would rather do one long and good interview, then do a dozen small ones. In that interview we’ll get deeper with all this, the wrestling business, and we’ll even give you the final numbers of 6/16 and hopefully be announcing the new buyer.
These last 5 years running WSU has been fun, and I thank everyone who has supported us, even when you didn’t like what we did. At the end of the day, we gave you what we thought was best and always tried to keep you wanting more. With all that said, and please I hope it doesn’t come off like I’m looking for sympathy, because I am not, which is why I really kept this all to myself for so long, I just wanted to let everyone know what was going on because the fans deserved to know what is up. We haven’t promoted 6/16 that well because of all this, but these next 3 weeks are key. We hope you trust us to put on a great show. 6/16 is my last event, and I am not going out with a whimper. This is our most loaded show yet and I guarantee will be our best show of all time.
I am not a Fat Frank of JAPW or an Ian Rotten of IWA. This is not a desperation promotional tactic to get your money by giving you the gloom and doom bulls***. Everything here is true. I am walking away to take care of myself and to take care of my other priorities right now. 6/16 is the last day for me, but maybe not for the company depending on how well the show does. With the Rumble being my last show, there is NO F***ING WAY we are not going to do this up big. There will be a special energy that night and you will see the best WSU show of all time. I promise you that. This isn’t a promoter hype speech (that press release will be coming soon!) but this is the truth. For my last WSU show, it’s going to go out with a bang, and whoever purchases the company will be set up nicely, as this show will make you appreciate WSU even more. I guarantee it. This went alot longer than I thought, so thank you to everyone who read this and supporting us. It is so f***ing cliche, but really, with no fans, this company does not exist. Everyone who has ever bought a ticket, a DVD, or an IPPV kept this company alive. Thank you all.
