In an interview with Jim Varsallone of The Miami Herald, WWE NXT Superstar Kevin Steen commented on various topics in regards to him joining WWE NXT, meeting Steve Austin, the WWE Performance Center and more.
Steen said that the WWE Performance Center is a professional wrestler’s dream and is unlike anything you’ve ever seen and feels very lucky to be there. Steen confirmed that William Regal saw him at a Pro Wrestling Guerilla event and got the ball rolling for him to sign with the WWE. Steen said that he was a big part of Sami Zayn’s career in the past, much like Sami was a big part of his own and that seeing Sami work his way towards the WWE’s main roster is inspiring. Steen noted that while he doesn’t follow sports, almost everyone in NXT are big football fans.
Steen talked about training at Jacques Rougeau’s wrestling school, but said that Rougeau had little to do with the actual training and that a trainer at the school named Eric Mastrocola worked with him. Steen talked about meeting WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin at an airport in 2005 and said that Stone Cold opened his eyes to how important running your mouth is and that Steen asked Austin for just one piece of advice, to which Austin told him to just run his mouth. Steen said that his parents have been very supportive of his wrestling career and his Dad was the first person he called when he signed with the WWE. Steen talked about moving his wife, his son, his daughter, his dog, three cats and all of their belongings to Florida in about 5 days when he signed with the WWE and that his parents made the 3-day trip with him in two U-Haul trucks and noted that he named his six-year-old son Owen after one of his favorite wrestlers in Owen Hart.
Steen said that everyone’s goals in WWE NXT are to end up on WWE RAW or WWE SmackDown and work a WrestleMania event and he’s no different and said that it is important to him that he makes his time in WWE NXT count and that he wants to make memories and moments that the fans will remember.
