WWE superstar Kane was a recent guest on The Edge & Christian Pod Of Awesomeness and discussed a variety of topics including whose decision it was for him to remove his mask back in 2003.
On the decision to remove his mask and whose idea it was, Kane noted that it was his and Vince McMahon’s decision to remove it. Kane said that as it relates to the mask, he had to learn to use his body more, which helped him as a performer, but when the mask came off, the years of previous work helped him become a better-rounded performer and in his opinion, by the time 2003 rolled around, the mask had become a hindrance and that version of the character had gone as far as it could.
Kane said that at the time, only himself and Vince McMahon were convinced that it was a good idea and said how it was one of the best things that he ever did as he would not have had the success that he did if he kept the mask on. Kane said that he was not nervous when the time came, but more apprehensive and that he knew that Vince McMahon is not wrong often, but knew that there may be a possibility that unmasking him might not work and that once it was off that there would be no turning back and the mystique to the masked Kane character would be lost, but that you have to take risks in life.
