Triple H took part in a conference call earlier today to promote tomorrow’s WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable live special on the WWE Network. Triple H said that it was a really exciting time and that WWE NXT continues to grow in leaps and bounds and noted the house shows over the weekend were met with great reviews and that the WWE NXT fanbase continues to grow via grasroots and social media and that he’s counted on fans spreading the word themselves and encouraged fans that if they are fans to preach it to the world.
HHH said that he was proud of everyone, but was especially proud of the women main eventing the first night in Philadelphia and said that what they are doing in NXT changes the perception of what women can do in the industry. HHH said that the tour successes so far have been phenomenal and that they are using the rest of 2015 as trial and error in doing different things, including different size venues, festival touring and some international components and said that by 2016 he looks forward to NXT being a full-fledged brand. HHH then put over the ESPN E:60 special and said that he wanted to go on record and thank ESPN for the documentary and said that while it took a long time, it was worth it as a way to give insight into the real-life situations that talents go through and said that he thinks when you see them as performers, you forget what they go through and said that he hopes there will be more similar documentaries on ESPN or via the WWE Network down the line.
Triple H said that there has been some speculation on Sami Zayn’s health, however Sami has been cleared to compete and will be wrestling against Kevin Owens at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable tomorrow night. He then put over Kevin Owens’ appearance on WWE RAW last night and said that Owens made an impact and it shows the faith that the WWE has in the NXT brand right now and then ran down the card for the Unstoppable live special. Triple H said that before he opens up the call for the question and answer session, there have been several promotions and said that Matt Bloom (Jason Albert/Tensai/A-Train) is now the permanent head coach of WWE NXT, while Sara Amato (Sara Del Rey) has been promoted to the assistant coach at the WWE Performance Center, the role previously held by Bloom and said that Amato will also be part of the main roster staff as a producer and agent.
The first caller asked about Sara Amato’s role on the main roster, to which Triple H said that she’s done a great job as a producer and brings the information she gets there back to the Performance Center and that she splits her time between Orlando and the main roster. The next question asked about the goal for the WWE NXT brand a year from now in terms of touring, to which Triple H said that he would like to do the same touring as the other WWE tours do and said that they’ve got the momentum and have showed everyone this is a growing brand and with the support of the company and their corporate platforms and that he doesn’t want to do just what works best on the main roster, but what works for the NXT brand and said that every day is the first day on the job for them as they try to plot their course and 2015 will be trying different things and 2016 will be where they tour and he sees a long-term vision of NXT to have a two-tour function and said that they have had a small touring feel in Florida and don’t want to lose that small, grass roots feeling and that possibly, a few years down the line, they can have a main WWE NXT tour and smaller shows with stars trying to make their way to NXT television and learning and said that you can be in the Performance Center all day long, but without the live experience, it’s all just theory and the more they work, the more and faster they will improve.
The next question asked about WWE signing independent talent, to which Triple H said that he doesn’t care where the talents come from and said that independent wrestling guys are great to add to the roster because they have experience in front of crowds, but as they bring in new guys, they need to give them that experience. The next question asked about NXT getting on television in the United States and said that isn’t his call and he’s happy with the exposure that he has with the brand now as it’s obviously not hurting them and said that if he was a 20-year-old, WWE NXT would be a big driver towards buying the WWE Network. The next question asked about Hideo Itami, to which Triple H confirmed that Itami is out injured, but said that from a storyline standpoint, Itami will be represented at WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable. Triple H said that injuries happen and they try to perform to the best of ability without guys getting hurt and there’s certainly a question about mileage on certain guys and that is what it is and said that if someone gets hurt while you are moving into something big, then you have to try and creatively move in another direction and you have to move into something just as big and hopefully the audience reacts to that. The next question asked about Triple H’s goals for the WWE NXT brand as a whole. Triple H said that it is a third brand, but the goal is to get the guys ready for the main roster and said that everyone that is there, under contract or not under contract, the goal is to create stars and he wants to get to a point where every performer at WrestleMania came through the system and said that developing talent is one of the challenges that they have and he doesn’t think he can do more to brand Neville as a face of NXT and then he gets called up and that is bittersweet at times and said that the talent is a team and they are proud of it and they work hard. HHH then talked about how Neville told him that it was hard to hear about the Philly and Albany house shows and not be a part of them and said that the challenge of the brand is that and said the best problem they can have is Vince wanting someone while they are in the middle of a program and he has to find a way to work out of it and said that there are guys ready to be on the main roster now, but the spot isn’t there for them yet and that isn’t his call as he’s just trying to create the best feeder system they can create and said that they get calls from everywhere from guys who want to get into NXT and be part of it and said that it’s a great holding tank for them to be a part of.
The next question asked related to how WWE might change how they recruit certain talents due to wear and tear from their previous runs in the business. HHH said that it is hard to recruit yout with experience and said that if he brings a guy in his mid-30’s in and it takes a few years, then they aren’t going to get a lot out of them in the long-term and said that if he sees someone with a lot of outside experience, he looks at how much they need to do to get them to RAW and how much time this might take and said that they do a lot of storytelling and the physciality is what it is, but something they try to get the talent to learn is when and where you take the risks on a day in and day out basis and that is to work harder, not smarter. The next question concerned how Triple H views the Ring of Honor product and others since so many of their former talents are now in NXT and on the main roster. Triple H said that he loves all those guys and said that he doesn’t want to make WWE NXT direct competition to them, but in making the NXT brand the best it can be and if WWE and NXT’s business grows, then that raises Ring of Honor’s business and everyone else’s also and sad that he doesn’t want it to be seen as NXT hurting their business and wants to help everyone’s business and claimed that talents who were never spoken to by NXT have used claims of a WWE NXT offer to get more money out of others and said that if they do and get more money out of it, then so be it. The next question asked if the popularity of the brand led to the idea of WWE NXT being more than just a developmental system. Triple H said that he always had the vision for it, but didn’t voice it because he wanted to see where it went from there and now he feels like he’s trying to hold onto it as it races away. The next question asked about the Samoa Joe rumors to which he noted that Joe is a phenomenal talent and recently visited the WWE Performance Center and said that he doesn’t know whether they will do business together, but noted that Joe was impressed and that you couldn’t come visit without being impressed.
The next question asked about whether WWE NXT will get to the point where guys would be happy, financially and personally with staying down in NXT. Triple H said that it is always a strive to get to the main roster and said that guys can hustle or be in WWE NXT with very little hustle as part of the system and do as well or better than they would do outside the WWE NXT system and said that the NFL lets go of 400 players every year because not everyone is going to make it and said that there are some guys who make it to WWE NXT who are great characters that work there but won’t translate to the main roster and said that this is a place where you can make a living and that they are creating a brand that are self-sustaining and said that there is a benefit to bringing in guys like Rhyno and giving him an avenue to being part of the system and that Rhyno is a great positive guy and it helps reinvigorate his brand and said that it’s going to be a great place for people who want to be part of the roster and those looking to extend their time in the industry. The next question asked about the process of bringing Kevin Owens to WWE RAW last night. Triple H said that there was a lot of collaboration and said that he’s constantly in Vince’s ear about who is ready because Vince doesn’t always see the entire show and said that he will show Vince videos and make suggestions when Vince wants something and that the Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn situations were collaborations and said that you want to do something special and not bring the guys up haphazardly. The next question asked if the crew coming up means the end of John Cena. HHH said that he’s excited John is such a confident performer he gives guys like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens the opportunity and at the end of the day, it is up to the guys to take the platform they are given and to perform and said that what they have done is show the success of the system and that the future of WWE is very bright and that time ticks for the older stars and when the time comes, they are ready with the next generation and said that they won’t be in a situation where they will lose 3-4 talents and they are screwed.
The next question asked about Emma returning to WWE NXT. HHH said that he is happy to give her an opportunity tomorrow night and to give all the girls the opportunity and said that sometimes, the main roster girls look down and see a little bit of friction and said that they are creating change and it’s bubbling up and that creates opportunity for everyone on the main roster and WWE NXT. The next question asked about Vince McMahon’s reaction to the WWE NXT show in San Jose that he attended. HHH said that Vince gave them a chance when they saw the success from a TV standpoint, they were excited and there were things they didn’t expect to see and were happy with the numbers and that San Jose was a little bit of a tipping point and noted how it came up at the last minute and that they had to convince the executive team to make it happen and said he pushed for it hard and executed and there were people who weren’t convinced and Vince got a lot of push back on it. HHH said that he didn’t know Vince McMahon was coming until he told Triple H that he would be at the venue in a little bit and a lot of the executives were blown away and were wondering why they weren’t doing more with it and said that it was a paradigm shift and you couldn’t be in that building and not stand there watching the show and not think, holy s***, this is something awesome.
Triple H was asked if there is one guy or girl who has impressed in their transition and success. Triple H said that there is so many of them that it is hard for him to say and said that Sami Zayn was amazing to him in that you take a guy out of a mask with no facials and very little promos and get him to where he is and to get Neville to come out of his shell as a talker and feel the emotion of the crowd was good. He then put over Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, as well as Charlotte’s growth and names like Finn Bálor and Tyler Breeze. The final question asked was about the potential of a strictly-female show for NXT or an all female Takeover special and said that there is always a possibility, but there has been no talk with him about it and said that he has lots of ideas but doesn’t voice them until the time is ready and that he has goals and is making moves towards them without telling anyone and said that the world is changing because 5 years ago, Ronda Rousey wouldn’t be promoted as the most-dominant athlete and he wants to be part of that change and it’s just a question of getting there. Triple H thanked everyone for their time and told them to tune in to the WWE NXT Takeover: Unstoppable live special tomorrow night on the WWE Network.
