In an update on the plans for WWE’s developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, despite previously contacting the Bright House Sports Network and informing them that they would no longer be airing Florida Championship Wrestling, the WWE changed those actions and contacted Bright House the week after WrestleMania to inform them that for the current time, they would like to extend their deal in the same time slot on a short-term basis. The company have signed no new contract with Bright House Sports Network and the expectation is that with recent reports getting out online, the company panicked and forced a change of plans.
The company taped several FCW shows back on April 5th for future airing and will return to the FCW Arena in May to tape, however I have been told that it is the months of June and July that are in question in regards to whether or not the WWE decide to pull the show again from the Bright House Sports Network. There are many in the company that feel with the prospective launch of the WWE Network, potentially between October or December, that Florida Championship Wrestling may have enough time to move to Orlando, where the company originally wanted their developmental territory and debut the show on the WWE Network in High Definition, however what is strange in this situation is that a move away from the Bright House Sports Network wouldn’t make any sense unless they move to the WWE Network, as BHSN is also available in Orlando, Florida. WWE are currently not paying for the time slot on the Bright House Sports Network, which makes things very rare, however BHSN are very happy with the ratings that the show delivers.
In regards to the reports of Dave Finlay and Terry Taylor being involved with the developmental process, Finlay is currently helping Yoshihiro Tajiri set up his Wrestling New Classic promotion in Japan and working the independent scene, however Taylor is expected to join the company shortly and link up with former TNA Wrestling colleague Brian Wittenstein, who previously joined the WWE and worked under both Bob Ryder and Terry Taylor during his time in TNA Wrestling. Taylor is expected to head up a base in Stamford, Connecticut that would see several of the top prospects in developmental continue their work before being called up to the main WWE roster, while Florida Championship Wrestling would remain the same under the guidance of Steve Keirn, Norman Smiley and others. The recent signing of top-level independent wrestling talent is something that the company have looked towards in the past few months and explains their interest in several Dragon Gate USA wrestlers. As we noted exclusively on the website during the week, the company handed tryouts to New Japan Pro Wrestling superstar Fergal Devitt, Dragon Gate USA star PAC and several UK-based wrestlers.
None of the talent are mentioning anything in regards to any potential move, however as WWE previously mentioned on the WWE’s website, major changes are expected to be made soon enough under the guidance of Triple H in the company’s developmental process. The expectation is that Triple H would be involved in the process alongside Taylor and Canyon Cemen in Stamford, Connecticut.
