3rd Annual Boris The Great Malenko Memorial Cup
(Riverview, FL)- K-Five Fellas and Definitive Wrestling International (DWI) present the 3rd Annual Boris “The Great” Malenko Memorial Cup, Sunday, June 24 at 1:00 pm at DWI Arena located at Riverview Flea Market 7415 Highway 301 South in Riverview, FL. This annual event is to pay tribute to one of Professional Wrestling’s greatest stars, Boris “The Great” Malenko.
Malenko was a top draw for 20 years and sold out arenas throughout the world. Many of his greatest battle were here in Florida in the 1960’s and 1970’s against the likes of Eddie Graham, Wahoo McDaniel, Joe Scarpa, Bill Watts, Jack Brisco, Sam Steamboat, and the Gladiator.
Throughout his illustrious career he held many titles including the NWA Brass Knucks Title an unprecedented eight times, Southern Heavyweight Title, Southern Tag Titles with The Missouri Mauler (Rocky Hamilton), Florida Heavyweight Title, Florida Tag Team championship with Bob Roop and Johnny Walker (Mr. Wrestling II), NWA World Tag Championship with Johnny Valentine, NWA Texas Tag Titles with Killer Karl Kox and the AWA tag team title with Bob Giegel.
Malenko retired in 1978 and formed, along with his sons, Dean and Joe, the famous Malenko School of Wrestling turning out many of the sports tops stars such as Kane, Sean Waltman (X-pac), WCW TV Champion Prince Laukea, Fred Ottman (Tugboat/Typhoon), Barry Horowitz, The Masked Superstar, Mike Graham, former World Champion Al Perez, international stars the Blackhearts, Frankie Reyes, Buddy Landell, Gangrel, Luna Vachon, Horace Hogan, Demolition Smash, Perry Saturn, Rusty Brooks, Jumbo Barretta, World Tag Team Champions, the Southern Posse, Jeff Bradley (Dudley Dudley), Big Jim Magnum, Bob Cook, and the list goes on. Malenko passed away from leukemia in September 1994 at the age of 61.
The card for this event is highlighted by the Malenko Alumni Battle Royal which will be referee Frankie Reyes’ final match and also takes on student Drew Blaze in a trainer versus student match, as he will retire after 30 years in the business. Also on the card, Lighting Monroe defends the Boris Malenko Memorial Brass Knucks Trophy against Joe Malenko. In a mixed tag, alumni Blackheart and Jessica Johnson see action, plus, alumni Rey Ayala defends the DWI Championship against Andreas Rossi and an Alumni tag team match featuring Jose Lopez and Mondo Ayala taking on Los Latino Locos (Gino Latino and Ric Royal) plus more.
