Former WWE Champion CM Punk was interviewed by Joe Rogan at the UFC 181 pay-per-view and announced that he has signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC and will debut in the Octagon in 2015.
Punk, who was billed on the pay-per-view as Phil “CM Punk” Brooks, stated that he would likely fight as a middleweight or a welterweight commented that this is his new career, 100% and that he feels that he has a short window to do this and he’s either going to get his a** kicked or kick some a**.
In an interview on The Jim Rome Show prior to the weekend, UFC President Dana White noted that he was looking forward to speaking to Punk this weekend and that if Punk was signed, he would start at the bottom as a 0-0 ranked fighter unlike Brock Lesnar who was thrown into the Octagon against top competition from the get go. Punk was free and clear legally from the WWE on October 26th, so whether both sides have been in negotiation since then is unknown. Punk also noted that he will be figuring out a training camp soon and has made several inquiries already. The former WWE Champion had been training under the Gracies doing Jiu-Jitsu for some time.
Welcome to the UFC @CMPunk! See you in 2015! https://t.co/X07ezdbmZl
