During a media event this week to promote the UFC 218 pay-per-view on Saturday night, UFC President Dana White noted that he will be meeting with former WWE Champion CM Punk this weekend to discuss Punk’s future with the MMA organization.
“CM Punk is coming to Detroit and wants to talk to me. I love the guy. We’ll see what he’s doing.”
Punk made his debut at the UFC 203 pay-per-view back in September 2016, losing to Mickey Gall after 2 minutes and 14 seconds via Rear Naked Choke. Following the fight, White noted in an interview that Punk should “probably not fight in the UFC again”, but refused to release Punk from his deal with the organization.
It will be interesting to see what comes of Punk’s meeting with Dana White this weekend and where his future lies with the UFC, or whether he will search out another MMA organization if his time comes to an end. Punk’s coach Duke Roufus of Roufusport noted recently that Punk was training hard for his next fight.
