With Fozzy scheduled to tour the UK tomorrow night at Rock City in Nottingham, England and with WWE in town, CM Punk making an appearance on Wednesday in Nottingham and Mick Foley performing his comedy show on Friday evening, one could say that professional wrestling fans in the area are being treated to a great week, especially considering that UFC 138 was also held just an hour away in Birmingham.
In an interview with LeftLion.com, Jericho answered questions about juggling his musical career and his pro wrestling career, a change in the UK fanbase and noted that Fozzy have a new album in the works, amongst other topics.
Regarding his pro wrestling career and his musical career, Jericho noted that he feels that he’s fully accepted as a musician these days, after being with Fozzy for 12 years and that he has been in bands since he was 12 and is not someone who wakes up one morning saying I want to be in a Rock n’ Roll band now and noted that when he was a kid, he had two dreams, one to be in a band and the other was to be a wrestler and it was the wrestling that took off first, however the last two years have really taken Fozzy to the next level and people don’t really care who’s in the band anymore, if it was a butcher, a baker and so on, as long as the music is good. Jericho noted that he’s always going to be known as Chris Jericho the wrestler, but brought up how Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is also an airline pilot, however neither bring their outside work up, when performing music and that Jericho would know more about any metal band over wrestling trivia.
On the change of his UK fanbase and whether it is becoming less wrestling fans and more hardcore metal fans, Jericho noted that there’s always going to be fans of his at his gigs, whether it is because of his wrestling, singing, writing or dancing and that he’s been in showbusiness for over 20 years and of course there was the curiositiy factor at the beginning with the band, however that only lasts so long, but he is happy that after 5 records and a 4th or 5th UK tour, they are happy to come back. Jericho noted that Fozzy was never a “wrestling band” and never sang songs about wrestling, or acted like wrestling, and that he is finding that the band is starting to become acknowledged by Kerrang! and Metal Hammer, which means the younger UK fanbase is learning of who the band are.
Jericho noted that Fozzy have a new album in the works, with about six or seven songs written and that they will be recording this Winter, with the album out in time for next year’s festival circuit. Jericho also talks about his relationships with other bands, his opinion on shoot interviews, deaths in professional wrestling, his time in WCW and much more.
