NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship Returns to Des Moines
3XWrestling Prepares For First Defense of Prestigious Title in Des Moines in Over a Quarter Century!
DES MOINES, Iowa– 3XWrestling (3XW) is set to make history once again.
On January 27, at 3XW’s Divide & Conquer2 event, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World’s Heavyweight championship – arguably professional wrestling’s most historic title and founded in Iowa – will be defended in Des Moines for the first time in over 25 years as the main event of a packed card at the Baratta’s@Forte Center.
Current titleholder “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, a four-time champion, flies in from San Diego, California to battle “The Rebel” Jeremy Wyatt for the first time. Many fans consider Wyatt to be one of the best wrestlers in the Midwest today.
Wyatt is no stranger to championships. Also known as “The Belt Collector” for the number of titles he’s won during his 10-year career, he is a two-time 3XW Heavyweight champion and recognized as the current NWA Central States champion, among many others.
Wyatt was recently awarded the 2011 Match of the Year award by MissouriWrestlingRevival.com for his phenomenal 73-minute Ironman match – a match length unheard of in the modern-era of wrestling – with current 3XW Heavyweight champion Mark Sterling at 3XW’s Divide & Conquer in January 2011. Incredibly, this is the fourth straight year a match involving Wyatt has won the award.
After years of dominating the Midwest, this is Wyatt’s first world championship match. Pearce, a 15-year veteran who’s known as one of the best speakers in all of wrestling, has traveled all over the world and currently stars on the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood television show.
This is the first defense of this prestigious championship in Des Moines since “Nature Boy” Ric Flair defended against “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes on Oct. 2, 1986. The last defense of the championship in Iowa at all was Flair facing El Gigante in Sioux City, Iowa on May 21, 1991.
The current version of the NWA was founded in Waterloo, Iowa in 1948, with Orville Brown being recognized as champion. Brown’s last defense of the championship came in Des Moines on Oct. 31, 1949, one day before injuries from an automobile accident would force Brown to retire. The championship was defended in Des Moines regularly through the late 1970s, including being fought for in the Des Moines Coliseum prior to the arena being destroyed by fire. The Coliseum was located only a few blocks south of the current location of the Barratta’s@Forte Center.

Other scheduled bouts for Divide & Conquer 2
3XW Heavyweight Championship!
Maddog McDowell vs. 3XW Heavyweight champion ”The Iron Man” Mark Sterling
– 3XW’s two most-powerful wrestlers collide as Sterling makes his first defense of his newly-won Heavyweight championship against one of 3XW’s most popular athletes. Sterling is furious that he’s not challenging Adam Pearce for the NWA World’s Heavyweight championship – an anger the ultra-tough McDowell can exploit to his benefit.
3XW Tag Team Championship – Non-Title Match!
”The Rockstar” Jimmy Rockwell & “Rock n’ Roll” Mike Sydal vs. 3XW Tag Team champions American Ground & Air – Nate Bash & Ben Sailer
– Two of 3XW’s top high-flying stars team up for the first time to battle 3XW’s dominant tag team champions. 3XW Commissioner Todd Countryman – the leader of Genesis, a group which the champs belong – declared this a non-title match due to Sydal and Rockwell making their debut as a team. A good showing here would do more than enough to establish them as threats to the title!
Women’s Match!
Stacey O’Brien vs. Miss Natural
– Both of these talented competitors is making their 3XW debuts, bringing their heated rivalry across Missouri and Kansas to Iowa for the first time. These ladies – trained under the guidance of the legendary Harley Race – are among the most talented female wrestlers in the Midwest!
King of Des Moines Tournament Final Rematch!
“The Unbreakable” Zach Thompson vs. “The Canadian Sex Icon” Ryan Salde
– Slade defeated Thompson in August to become the 2011 King of Des Moines Tournament winner. Thompson, trying to get back in the good graces of his former Genesis stablemates, interfered in Slade and partner AJ Smooth’s 3XW Tag Team title shot at Holiday Havoc 3. Slade challenged Thompson to this match as a result.
Singles Match!
Sir Bradley Charles vs. “The Laotian Sensation” Ricky Kwong with “Founder of MMA” Chad Mylan
– SBC badly wants to earn a rematch with “The Anarchist” Arik Cannon for the 3XW Pure Wrestling championship, which Cannon won from SBC’s via underhanded tactics. Kwong is a former Pure champion himself and wants to get one step closer to bringing gold back to the Mylan Management Agency once again.
Grudge Match!
“Delicious” Devin Carter w/ Todd Countryman vs. “Torturous” Tony Sly
– Despite not being the loser in a “Loser Leaves Genesis” triple threat match at Holiday Havoc 3, Sly was irate that Countryman favored Carter and shockingly left the supergroup, nailing his former manager with a punch. Carter, representing Genesis, looks to earn revenge.
Also in action: Gage Octane, Casanova, “The American Fury” Jon West, Jaysin Strife, Barry Ryte, Ray Stryker and more!
