In a recent interview with Chris Jericho as part of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood (the former Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson) discussed the final days in the WWE before their departure from the company.

Cash Wheeler said that they had asked for their WWE release around January 2019, noting that they asked for their release following a match with The Lucha House Party, as they were unhappy with the direction that tag team wrestling was going in with the company, specifically mentioning how Braun Strowman steamrolled the entire tag team division, as well as how he won the RAW Tag Team Championships with a ten-year-old child.

Dax Harwood said that those within the company thought that they were bluffing when they asked for their release, to which Jericho asked if the WWE promising a more focused tag team division was just a way to keep them on board. Dax said that he agreed with that, stating that he felt deep down that they would never focus on teams and that two singles wrestlers put together as a team had a better chance of getting a push than a consistent team.

Jericho then asked the duo about the final meeting between them and Vince McMahon. Cash Wheeler said that it was difficultto meet with Vince McMahon due to the transition to FOX, but that one day, they were working on putting together a match in the ring when they were called to Vince McMahon’s office for a meeting. Wheeler said that the designs, that ended up being leaked online, were 100% real and were presented to them by Vince McMahon himself, to which Harwood said that most of the time, the boys are kayfabed about everything and said that he was sure that whoever had leaked the pictures were a part of the WWE creative team.

Wheeler said that he laughed out loud upon seeing the designs in front of everyone at the meeting, which included Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard, noting that it was explained to them that this would be a way for them to showcase a different side to the team and showcase their charisma. Wheeler said that he told them that they were not good, but that they would do the characters until their contracts expired, noting that this was on a Friday and by the following Wednesday, they were told that they were being taken off the road and said that the money that they were being offered was higher than the $750,000 that was being reported at the time.

Jericho then asked them about the character motivations behind the new gimmicks. Wheeler said that they made the decision that they would be doing it out of spite, as the only way that they would get on television would be if they were a comedy act, which translated into real life that they thought was true as well. Harwood said that he did not know if Vince McMahon really thought that it was the best idea in the world or just a way to embarrass them on the way out, but noted that Vince McMahon was the greatest worker of them all.

The duo also discussed working with Dusty Rhodes, their favorite matches, who they would like to work with in the future and much more. The interview is available in full at this link.
