With CM Punk’s reign as WWE Champion currently standing at 408 days (as of today), the WWE Champion has broken more records with his historic reign.
As previously mentioned on the website, Punk’s reign has beaten John Cena’s 380 day reign which started on September 17th, 2006 and ended on October 2nd, 2007 due to Cena being injured and is to date, the longest reign in the past 25 years in the WWE.
This year also marked the first calendar year that the WWE Championship has not changed hands, which has not happened since 1987, when Hulk Hogan reigned for that calendar year as the WWE Champion.
Meanwhile, due to the fact that 2012 was a leap year, Punk also broke another record, that of Bob Backlund’s 1,470 day reign which started on December 17, 1979 and was on a leap year in 1980. Backlund didn’t lose the title until December 26, 1983 in a match against The Iron Sheik.
