MARVEL’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which stars WWE superstar Batista and had a budget of $170 million is close to seeing its budget return, as current box office numbers are at $94 million domestically, shattering August’s opening weekend record, which was set by The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007 at $69.3 million for its opening weekend, while the total domestic and globally for Guardians of the Galaxy is at $160.4 million, meaning that $66.4 million has come from the international box offices.

The movie had the third biggest opening weekend of 2014, behind Transformers: Age of Extinction which had an estimated $100 million+ opening weekend and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which had a $95 million opening weekend and is also the third superhero franchise to have a strong opening weekend overall with Spiderman in 2002 having an opening weekend of $114.8 million and Iron Man in 2008 having an opening weekend of $98.6 million.

MARVEL have already announced that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on July 28th, 2017.
