In a story released Sunday afternoon on NBCBayArea.com, the California-based NBC news affiliate confirmed that WWE officials have selected Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California to host the WrestleMania 31 pay-per-view in the spring of 2015.

According to the website, WWE officials visited San Francisco 49ers headquarters in early August, where they were pitched by team CEO Jed York and city leaders on the brand new, $1.3 billion stadium, which is near completion and expected to open for the 2014 NFL season. Weeks later, Santa Clara mayor Jamie Matthews and 49ers executives traveled to WWE headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut to meet with Vince McMahon.

WWE and Vince McMahon chose Levi’s Stadium over Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the WrestleMania 31 location and an official announcement by WWE is expected some time this week, even as soon as tomorrow’s Slammy Awards edition of WWE RAW, as the company are reported to have a press conference scheduled for Tuesday to make the announcement official, however that isn’t 100% confirmed and as of press time is just speculation.

On a side note, the website went on to state that the WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view in 2016 is confirmed to take place in Dallas, Texas, at Cowboys Stadium, according to a source. There were rumors of Cowboys Stadium possibly hosting last year’s WrestleMania 29 event and then having MetLife Stadium in New Jersey host WrestleMania 30, however WWE chose to have WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey last April, and the Superdome in New Orleans is hosting WrestleMania 30 in 2014.
