It is with deep sadness to announce that 2-time British Welterweight Champion, 4-time European Middleweight Champion and one-time British Middleweight Champion Mick McManus (William George Matthews), best known for his appearances on World of Sport has passed away aged 93.
Mick won his first title, the British Welterweight Championship back in 1949, just 2 years after his debut in 1947 by defeating Eddie Capelli for the title, which at the time was vacated.
McManus, known for his short range forearm jabs, trademark black trunks and cropped black hair, as well as his catchphrase “not the ears, not the ears” made more TV appearances during his time than any other wrestler, which spanned more than 20 years.
On behalf of everyone associated with Wrestling-News.Net, we would like to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mick McManus at this sad time.
