On Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 I attended the Mick Foley Comedy Show at Cyprus Avenue in Cork, Ireland having bought the tickets earlier that day upon learning of Foley appearing at the WWE event in Dublin and possibly his last personal appearance outside returning to the WWE. Before the show there were chants of “Foley, Foley, Foley” and a mild “We Want Cactus” chant and a comedian from Virginia, residing in Cork called Ashley Strand, did the warm-up act before Foley came on.
Foley got a great reaction when he came out with more people in the front few rows more vocal than the rest of the crowd. Foley talked about road stories in the WWE and backstage stories and even tried his hand at Irish humour, however the latter didn’t seemingly work out for him, as a scatter of the crowd laughed, however he went back to where he felt comfortable, talking about road stories and sharing some of his comedy wit.
Foley talked about the type of man that he was and talked about when he got into the wrestling business. Foley also did a bit of dancing and miming, the latter of which needs to be seen for his worm tongue segment. Foley said that doing comedy is like doing professional wrestling, noting that it is a tough business, where you have to leave it all on stage or all inside the ring and noted that it has been a great night and he wanted to thank the Irish crowd for making him feel like he was just as home.
On a personal level, Foley put on a fantastic show that overall in total had the crowd laughing their a**** off more than 95% of the time, with a the 5% scattered at other points during the show. Hopefully Foley finds a niché in the comedy scene and I would love to see him back here in Cork whenever he decides to return. A fantastic show overall.
