In an interview with Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate KDKA, WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino discussed the reasoning for him finally accepting the invite to join WWE’s Hall of Fame class after years of rejecting the offer.

Sammartino noted that he has been outspoken about changes needing to happen in the wrestling industry, with drugs and steroid use being the main two in particular and has seen that the WWE have made positive changes with their Wellness Policy testing and that he has started to watch WWE programming again and can see that their performers are not on drugs.

Another reason not really noted upon in the interview which made Bruno look at the WWE offer, is that Dr. Joseph Maroon oversees the WWE’s Wellness Policy and once operated on Sammartino and that Sammartino’s discussions with Maroon over the years helped give Bruno some new light on how the company handle their talents and protect them, as well as pay for the rehabilitation costs of former talent.
