New Japan Pro Wrestling sent out the following:
Jon Moxley, Powerhouse Hobbs to meet for IWGP World Heavyweight title on Dynamite
Don Callis calls for ‘return of favour’ over the title
Just days before he is already scheduled to defend IWGP World Heavyweight Championship gold against Ren Narita at Wrestling Dontaku, Jon Moxley will have another test on his hands as he wrestles Powerhouse Hobbs on AEW Dynamite April 24, with the gold on the line.
On the April 17 edition of Dynamite, Moxley came to address the AEW audience for the first time as IWGP Champion. Declaring war on the Don Callis Family for their actions on AEW, including an assault on Bryan Danielson, Moxley declared that he was challenging the group’s ‘biggest, baddest dog’ in Hobbs. The match was made, but a twist in the tale came on April 20’s edition of AEW Collision.
After a dominant performance by Hobbs in ring, Don Callis took to the microphone. Stating that his efforts in coaching Kenny Omega to the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in 2018, as well as putting together the famed Wrestle Kingdom 12 bout between omega and Chris Jericho sparked a boom period in NJPW, Callis stated that ‘six years later, it’s time to return the favour’, and after calling the NJPW office and IWGP committee, Wednesday’s Hobbs vs Moxley main event will be for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Should Hobbes emerge victorious, the face of Wrestling Dontaku will be completely changed- what happens Wednesday on Dynamite?
