New Japan Pro Wrestling crowned the inaugural IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion during today’s NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 event at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan as David Finlay defeated Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay to become the Champion.

The creation of the title was announced back on November 6th, 2023 by NJPW Chairman Naoki Sugabayashi, who noted that it would replace the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
