New Japan Pro Wrestling sent out the following:
Okada & Tanahashi to team for STRONG gold at Capital Collision!
Tag three way made for Washington DC
As Capital Collision rapidly approaches, the April 15 spectacular in Washington DC’s Entertainment and Sports Arena has gotten major additions made, with the STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championships at the center of a lot of speculation coming out of Multiverse United.
After Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Speedball Mike Bailey in the main event of the NJPW and IMPACT card on Thursday night, he was surprised to be interrupted by Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. The Motor City Machineguns showed their respect for Tanahashi, as well as a man with whom they were very familiar from his pre-Rainmaker excursion days, Kazuchika Okada. The Guns extended an invitation to the Dream Team to combine ad challenge them for the tag belts, but were interrupted by Aussie Open.
Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher made the point that Shelley and Sabin hadn’t beaten them directly for the tag titles last October at Rumble on 44th Street, and demanded they get a shot. Shelley suggested that they defend the titles against both teams at once, and now the three way match is made. At Anniversary, Tanahashi and Okada battled valiantly for IWGP Tag glory, but couldn’t match the team unity of Bishamon. Can they overcome MCMG in DC? Will the champs retain? Or will Aussie Open, coming just shy of IMPACT and ROH tag gold this week, still end April with two sets of tag team titles in NJPW?
