Following on from the news that Brian Gewirtz had been removed as the top writer for WWE RAW prior to the show going on-air last night, Wrestling-News.net can confirm that Vince McMahon made a declaration backstage stating that no one’s job was safe due to the declining ratings and that Vince himself wants to see a change of things in the company, starting with last night’s WWE RAW, with the feeling that Gewirtz lost his power in the company as a way of Vince illustrating his point.
As of writing, Dave Kapoor who plays Ranjin Singh on WWE television and had been a lead writer for RAW in recent months, feeding the script through to Gewirtz will be remaining in his role, however Eric Pankowski, who previously worked with Reveille and Warner Bros and was hired in February as a SVP of Creative and Development, will be taking on the role that Gewirtz left behind. Gewirtz role has been updated to a “consultant” for the company providing feedback on the shows, with the feeling that Vince can replace him, but according to sources, would find it hard to let him go as he values Gewirtz opinion very highly, so high that only Kevin Dunn and Vince’s immediate family are said to be held above Gewirtz opinion.
I have been told that several talent were surprised at the move last night, as well as the move to take Ed Koskey, one of SmackDown’s leading writers and a good friend of Gewirtz, off the road, to have him work at the company’s headquarters. Koskey is a well liked individual amongst WWE superstars, as he liked to use the superstars ideas. Speaking of said WWE superstars, I can confirm from the same source that one of the top superstars in the company recently had a heated back and forth with McMahon in front of everyone and told Vince that the creative writing sucks and that Vince is out of touch with what wrestling fans want to see in 2012 and that Vince needs to listen to people around him and change things up for the better.
Those I have spoken to since last night believe that it is a ballsy decision from Vince McMahon, as Gewirtz is one of if not the best writer that the company has had, mostly due to his work on promos and that Gewirtz was considered to be one of those within the company that had a job for life on the creative side of things. As of writing, the current creative team is made up of Eric Pankowski, Pat Patterson, Tom Cassiello, Kevin Eck, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon.
Everything that is being written up is usually passed to Vince and Stephanie McMahon prior to the show airing, however I have been told that Vince has taken on the decision to have everything and every opinion and change to the show run through him and has been implementing his own ideas towards the show.
If anything else becomes available on the situation, we will be sure to keep you updated.
