Spike TV President, Kevin Kay, is featured in a recent interview with Sherdog Radio, where he discusses the working relationship that the company has with TNA Wrestling, how Bellator and TNA might cross-promote events on the network and much more.
Kay noted that the company worked really hard with TNA to help make choices about their talent roster and improve their production and storytelling work and for Spike TV, as marketers, to promote it in different ways. Kay noted that the company has changed the name from TNA Impact to Impact Wrestling and that there’s lots of thinking and thoughtfulness that went into that process, that he believes has helped the company and he believes that anyone in the company would repeat those words. Kay stated that if Spike TV and TNA Wrestling do their job right and if Spike TV protect it and build with it, both sides will be successful and he feels like that they are doing the same kind of strategy with Bellator, noting that Spike TV are working closely with the organization, just like TNA Wrestling.
Kay noted that there will be a lot of cross-promotion over the coming years with TNA Wrestling and Bellator, including the recent appearance of Eddie Alvarez on Impact, as opposed to the TNA Wrestling and UFC deal and he thinks generally the UFC’s feeling was that it was a little confusing to the fans and it’s not necessarily the same audience watching both shows. Kay noted that Spike TV believe a little differently and TNA Wrestling has always believed a little differently and has allowed cross-promotion, so you’re going to see lots more of those opportunities and he believes that although some like to hide it, wrestling fans are MMA fans and visa versa and that there are two big platforms now on the network that can help promote and build each other.
