WGNO-TV in Louisiana are reporting that a fan from the United Kingdom who was visiting New Orleans for WrestleMania week, was hospitalized on Saturday and tested positive for the measles, which is highly contagious if someone has not been immunized against it.
While it is currently unknown as to what other events, if any, that the fan may have attended over the weekend, as well as where he stayed, where he ate, how he travelled, ABC affiliate WAFB-TV reported that health officials are currently trying to trace the fan’s steps in order to get a clearer indication of where he was over the course of the weekend, especially given the amount of fans who would have been interacting with each other in New Orleans at various events.
Meanwhile, WVUE-TV Channel 8 (a FOX affiliate in New Orleans) reporter Henry Allen noted on his Twitter account that the fan in question was in attendance at the Smoothie King Center on Friday night for the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony before being admitted to hospital the following day, noting that atendees are receiving notifications from the Lousiana Department of Health. WWE held three further events at the venue over the course of the week including WWE NXT Takeover: New Orleans, WWE Monday Night RAW and WWE SmackDown Live.
There is obviously great ramifications that could come with this story, depending or not on whether anyone else caught the disease. Symptoms of the measles typically begin appearing within a 7-14 day timeframe, if someone who has not been immunized comes into contact with the infected. The measles symptoms typically begin with a high fever, cough, runny nose and watery eyes, which are followed with a rash and tiny white spots, known as Koplik spots, possibly appearing inside the mouth.
